(AP) The venue was so packed that 1,400 fans were unable to get in and thus turned away, per the Feb. 3, 1928 Daily News Searchlight newspaper of nearby Bremerton, WA. The Seattle Times reported that Carter was entitled to a hairline verdict, scoring the first two rounds even, giving Carter the 3rd and 5th, and Hawkes the 4th and 6th rounds.
