- Upshaw was a late opponent for Douglin, as two others pulled out. The bout turned out to be an even matchup. The taller Upshaw tried to use his jab on Douglin, who succeeded in getting inside on Upshaw. Douglin dropped Upshaw by clipping him with head shots in rounds one and two. With two 10-8 rounds, Douglin won every round but it wasn't easy. Upshaw cleverly knew how to hold, and kept looking to land big shots, keeping Douglin cautious to a certain degree. Douglin finally broke Upshaw down with body shots in the eighth round. Douglin then finished a tired Upshaw, who was no longer able to hold, with a flurry of head shots on the ropes late in round eight, forcing the stoppage. Not an easy win. Despite apparently winning every round on the judge's scorecards, Douglin had to work hard to break Upshaw down and eventually 'close the show'.
