Bobby Ivy 130 lbs beat Joe Marinelli 129 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

  • Benefit for the British War Relief

Ivy gave Marinelli "a thorough drubbing," gaining the unianimous decision.

"No matter what Marinelli did, and his actions included low blows as well as consistent wrestling, Ivy rarely gave ground when the boys stood in the open and slugged.

Marinelli scored in several rounds with shots to the middle that would have buckled a less rugged opponent but Ivy seemed to take his best without wincing and gave more than he received in the exchanges.

The Dayton boxer nodded confidently to his corner in the third round after connecting with a left hand hook to the middle whcih made Ivy puff and cover, but the punch only momentarily slowed the Hartford battler and in the next round Ivy cuffed Marinelli about the head often enough to allay any fears that he was hurt.

Previous to the bout the report was circulated around the ring that Ivy was a '6 to 1' favorite to win by a knockout, but the gamblers who gathered in their usual 'curb exchange' fashion at the south end of the arena must have had a bum steer on that one."
