Remus won the 1st round from Jones, who appeared to be sparring. In the 2nd round, Remus twice hurtled Jones across the ring from his punches, earning him a loud roar from the contingent of sailors rooting for their fellow sailor. The two fought an even 3rd round, and in the 4th Remus cracked Jones with a right hand that split his lip. This appeared to awaken Jones, who swarmed all over Remus for the remainder of the round, battering him. The 5th round was all Jones, as he continued to swarm all over an increasingly defenseless Remus. In the 6th, a flurry of punches at close range, sunk Remus to the canvas. He promptly rolled over on his side, and was counted out. It appeared that the finishing blow was a left hook to the liver.
