• In the ESPN televised preliminary bout to the main event, last minute substitute 13-1 welterweight Naim Nelson, who signed for the bout at 9 P.M. Wednesday night before the Thursday weigh-in, appeared in phenomenal condition and gave a good accounting of himself, but was just too short to overcome the taller 21-0 Luna, who had superior reach and kept throwing to win rounds on the punch count all night. Nelson had a good defense, but just could not match Luna's offensive output, and missed frequently as Luna was out of distance range. Unanimous clear decision.
