Britain's "most underrated champion" Dennis Andries retained his WBC Light Heavyweight Title by stopping countryman Tony Sibson in the ninth round of their scheduled 12-round bout.
Andries, 32, was well ahead on points when he floored the 28-year-old challenger three times in the ninth round.
Andries landed well in the fourth and hurt Sibson with a combination as the bell rang to end the fifth. By the ninth, Sibson was bleeding from a cut to his left eyebrow.
Sibson rallied in the sixth and seventh, but could not keep up the pace with the bigger and stronger champion. Sibson "had maybe three good rounds at the most" and for the rest was under pressure and feeling the weight of Andries' effective attacks.
By the eighth, Sibson was fading fast, and by the ninth his strength had almost drained away. Andries floored him the first time by a crisp combination of head punches. He was ruled down for the second time when a pair of grazing right hand caused him to tip forward at the waist and both gloves to touch the mat. A clubbing right hand seconds later knocked Sibson to a knee.
Andries, who did a forward cartwheel in the ring after the stoppage, made his first successful defense of the title he claimed less than five months earlier again American JB Williamson (22-1).
