- The United Press reported:
- Pep achieved his seventy-ninth victory in 80 professional fights by jabbing the elongated Chalky, from whom he wrested the title in 1942, all over the ring. Pep beat Wright so decisively that he stands head and shoulders above current featherweights. There were no knockdowns, although Pep slipped to his glove tips in the seventh round, and to his knees in the eighth. Pep suffered a mouse under his left eye and Wright bled freely from his nose in the closing sessions. [1]
