Pep won seven rounds, Walton one (4th round), while two were scored even by the referee. Pep who was less sharp with his punches early in the bout, and appeared cautious after taking a right uppercut from Walton in the 2nd round. Pep won rounds seven through nine decisively to provide himself a clear margin of victory. Pep's best round was the 9th round, when he left-hooked him all over the ring, and nearly floored him with one of those blows. Pep was cut along his mouth, nose, cheekbone and ear in the bout.
