The Baltimore Sun described this bout as being seen as "generally to be the finest featherweight fight seen here in many years." McAllister rocked Pep three times, sending him to the floor for a count of six in the 2nd round with a hard right to the chin. Pep appeared to have taken McAllister lightly, as McAllister stood in the middle of the ring and traded toe-to-toe with him. Pep was at his strongest in rounds five through seven.
