- Smith, inactive ten years, shorter and outclassed by middleweight prospect Wade, came off the canvas with heart and still tried hard throughout, making a fight of it. Both fighters were in top condition. Despite the scoring, a competitive match. Smith gave a good accounting of himself, but admitted after the bout he should have taken a tuneup bout before taking on higher level opposition, due to his long period of inactivity.
