Pep was in control for most of the bout, and knocked Marcune down in the 5th round with a right to the jaw, for an eight-count. Pep was cut over his left eye in the 9th round, and for a moment appeared that Pep may be in trouble. Pep, however, hurt Marcune and had him wobbly at the end of the 9th round. Pep's first exchange with Marcune, had him hurt again, and the referee stopped the bout.
