The bout was even going into the 8th round, according to the Detroit Free Press. Saddler badly hurt Valencia in the 8th round with right hands to the head, as Valencia barely made it out of the round. In the 9th round, Saddler battered Valencia to the floor for a four-count. Saddler then pummeled Valencia until he was pinned in the lower strand of the ropes, at which point the referee intervened.
