This was an exciting fight, according to the Allentown Morning Call as both men traded punches in the first four rounds. Canzoneri knocked Costa down in the 5th round with a right hand, for a nine-count, and then put him down again in the round for nine with another barrage. Costa recovered to begin the 5th round, and hit Canzoneri with eight to ten unanswered punches to the stomach. After Canzoneri stepped away, and attempted to go after Canzoneri, Canzoneri's knees buckled and he went down, and took the ten count in agony.
