Paddy DeMarco, 136, New York lightweight bulled and fought his way to a split-decision over featherweight champion Sandy Saddler, 128, in 10 furious rounds at the Milwaukee Arena before 6,581 fans who paid a gross of $20,349.10. DeMarco set the pattern early. Using his 7 ½ pounds to advantage, he rushed behind stinging lefts and rights to the head and body, forced Saddler to the ropes often. The champ landed the harder and cleanest punches. At times the bout developed into a furious brawl and the referee warned both three times for unnecessary roughness. It was a battle the fans will not soon forget. [TR November 1951]
