A riot ensued after the decision, led by many Filipinos who disagreed with the decision against Ganzon. This led to the cancellation of the main event, between Jackie Jurich and Young Tommy. Both the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin felt the decision for Rego was more than fair. Rego knocked Ganzon down in the 7th round.

At least 11 fans were charged with various crimes stemming from the riot. Two fireman were also charged for assaulting the rioters.
