- In the fight of the night at Showboat in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the first ever boxing card to be held on an actual casino floor (Showboat became a non-gaming hotel), both fighters were down in the second round. With the bout on the table, and neither fighter concerned about protecting their record, both fighters went for broke when the fourth and final round started. Charles staggered Lewis around the ring and off the ropes with accurate head power shots, earning the stoppage win. Charles showed up in shape for this bout, with his trainer Bill Johnson, the father of the late world champion Leavander Johnson, and Leavander's assistant trainer Arnold Robbins, also working with Charles.
- Packed house for both boxing and MMA Saturday night shows at The Showboat. Boxing card promoted by Rising Star Promotions, with matchmaking by matchmaker Russell Peltz who was in attendance. The 'new' Showboat, sold and converted into a non-gaming hotel with its rooms redone, had only a lobby bar, and no restaurants or shops, and still sold out.
