In the main event of a seven bout card at Radisson Claridge Atlantic City entitled 'Ring Redemptions', co-promoted by Mis Downing Promotions and Silver Spoon Promotions, heavyweight contender Chazz 'The Gentleman' Witherspoon made a comeback, won a close but unanimous eight round decision over veteran Lamont Capers. His scheduled opponent, Mike Sheppard, pulled out, and cruiserweight Capers, who won his first heavyweight bout by second round knockout a week ago, stepped in. Bout scoring appeared neutral and fair.
Capers, also a noted MMA fighter, proceeded to make a war of it, hoping to catch Witherspoon, inactive 17 months, off guard. Capers would get inside, hold and grapple, then throw high chopping rights to the head of Witherspoon, high over the top. Capers would not stopping the grab, hold and punch approach, forcing Witherspoon to fight a technical bout and score punches for points at every opportunity. Witherspoon won the majority of the eight rounds on points. Still, Capers won two or three rounds in the middle of the bout by landing some significant blows. However, by the midway point of the final round, Capers was tiring, but Witherspoon, not taking any chances, opted to win the round-and the bout-on the cards. After the bout, Chazz Witherspoon said he would go back to training for a 10 rounder in his next bout with his cousin, former world heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon. The other scheduled co-main event on this card featuring Anthony 'Juice' Young was cancelled, and rescheduled for the next Mis Downing Promotions card. Atlantic City's new mayor, Frank Gilliam, spoke in the ring before the main event and expressed his support for boxing events in Atlantic City.
