Malone knocked Walker down in the 2nd round with a left hook to the jaw, for a short-count. Walker appeared hurt, but the round ended before any further damage could be done. Walker however was able to take control of the bout, and was the aggressor, as he was able to fight effectively inside against Malone, who appeared in the eyes of the Boston Herald to be noticeably smaller than Walker. The Boston Herald gave Walker eight rounds, Malone, one, and had one other even.
