"Tanabe, the second-ranked flyweight contender, opened up on Accavallo with a whirlwind of punches from the first round and succeeded in knocking the champion down for mandatory eight-counts in both the third and fourth rounds... Referee Hiroyuki Tezaki stopped the bout as blood streamed down from a cut on the titleholder's forehead. Accavallo was cut early in the fourth round when the two fighters collided bumping heads."
