In the sixth and final round, Resendiz badly hurt Pagan and went for the knockout as Pagan looked to hold on. Suddenly, a Pagan fan jumped onto the ring apron and took a swing at Resendiz. The referee, who should've immediately disqualified Pagan, instead called for time and sent both boxers to neutral corners.
This gave Pagan time to recover and ultimately end the fight on his feet.
