Williams won all but the 2nd and 6th, which were scored even by the referee. The Jersey Journal felt the bout was closer than the decision indicated, as they felt Smith won the 1st and 3rd round, and held Williams even in the 6th. Williams knocked Smith down in the 7th round, after a rally by Smith earlier in the round. Williams also had Smith in trouble in the 8th round.
