Spug Myers beat Jim Kelly by TKO at 2:50 in round 7 of 10

Myers was able to handle Kelly's left-handed power, while out-landing with the exception of two moments when he was hurt in the 5th and 6th round by left hands. In the 7th round, Myers knocked Kelly down for nine with a left hook to the solar plexus. Kelly rose defenseless and was floored again by Myers, at this point Charlie Goldzwig, chairman of the Montgomery County boxing commission, asked for the bout to be stopped.
