Dano dropped Tommy with a right hand to the head in the 1st round, for a nine-count. Upon rising, Tommy was dropped by another right hand as the bell rang. Tommy came back to win the 2nd round, but from the 3rd round on Dano wore Tommy down, as the two fought toe-to-toe. In the 8th round, Dano hurt Tommy with a right and left hook to the chin. Tommy wobbled to the ropes, holding the top rope to avoid going down. The referee then stopped in to stop the bout.
