Brown suffered cuts, bruises and a brain concussion after being mobbed by enraged fans. The referee stopped the bout after having warned Brown three times for using illegal tactics. Brown so angered the crowd that they stormed the ring, trashed ringside seats, broke down the ring posts, and ripped up the canvas. They also piled into Brown with their fists. One slugged him with a walking stick. At least 20 were pummeling Brown when policemen fought their way through and rescued him. By then he was bleeding and semi-conscious. It was another 20 minutes before the arena was eventually cleared.
