  • Walcott received 40% of the receipts and Johnson 20%.
  • Johnson, who won the first round, was knocked down in the second round for a count of three. It was give and take in the early moments of the third round when Johnson stopped short and sank to the canvas. His face was a mask of pain as he rolled over and over. Referee Dave Beloff waved Walcott to a neutral corner and counted out the stricken Johnson.
  • Dr. Joseph I. Levy, physician for the commission, had Johnson removed from the ring on a stretcher. Dr. Levy examined Johnson and announced that a preliminary examination disclosed an injury to the intervertebral disc located in the small of the back.
  • Walcott said he believed Johnson twisted his back when he was knocked down in the second round.
  • Fourteen years earlier, Walcott stopped Johnson's father, Phil Johnson, in three rounds.
