Robinson rocked Riccio several times in the first three rounds, but Riccio had sustained rallies in the first two rounds where he drove Robinson to the ropes. In the 4th round, Robinson dropped Riccio after a mid-ring exchange punctuated by two left hooks. Riccio was back up eight, and was quickly battered into the ropes for a nine-count. Robinson again pounded on Riccio, dropping him for a 3rd time, as the bout was stopped.
