The Lancaster New Era and Lancaster Daily Intelligencer both felt that Nitchie hit Britt with a legal blow to the body, and that referee Droney unfairly gave him one minute recovery, which was not justified. The New Era felt that Nitchie had won the first round by a large margin, and that Britt was hurt. Britt recovered in this bout, and eventually pummeled Nitchie in the last round, putting him down twice.
