Harris opened a cut over one of LaMotta's eyes in the 4th round, and pecked away at the wound for the next two rounds, as LaMotta fought wildly. LaMotta made good use of his left hand, to take a narrow margin in rounds seven through nine. Harris outboxed and outfought LaMotta in the final round. The crowd booed the decision in favor of LaMotta.
