Bout Summary

In a Top Rank ESPN World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation World Light Heavyweight unification bout, which was also the lineal World Light Heavyweight title as well, IBF world champion 15-0 Artur Beterbiev scored three knockdowns of previously undefeated WBC champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk in the tenth round, causing referee Gary Rosato to stop the bout with Gvozdyk on the canvas down and out. Gvozdyk was down twice earlier in the bout from what referee Rosato ruled as slips. Despite the pleas of trainer Teddy Atlas in the corner, Gvozdyk was throwing more punches, but Beterbiev countered flawlessly in matching Gvozdyk in punches landed. Beterbiev landed too much power shot thunder on the inside overall, coming forward with too much pressure on Gvozdyk, in a similar performance to the way Beterbiev finished Gvozdyk in the amateurs. Beterbiev outlanded Gvozdyk 60 to 14 in the last two rounds to close the show. Beterbiev landed a number of power shots to the body of Gvozdyk, which eventually broke the normally aggressive Gvozdyk down. Lineal World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was in attendance. Ringside ESPN commentary was provided by Timothy Bradley.
