The two fought on even terms in the first six rounds, with Jadick the better boxer, while Smith landing terrific punches to the head and body. Jadick who had raised a lump over Smith's eye in the 4th round, eventually closed that eye in the 8th round, and added a cut over it in the 9th. Jadick won the last three rounds by a large margin.
