Yoshio Shirai 114 lbs beat Dado Marino 115 lbs by TKO at 1:11 in round 7 of 10
- Date: 1951-12-04
- Location: Honolulu Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA
- Referee: Louis Freitas Jr
Shirai knocked Marino down three times in both the 6th and 7th rounds. Marino's manager Sam Ichinose threw in the towel after the 6th knockdown of the bout. Marino led by a slight margin during the first three rounds, before Shirai began to take over in the 4th round, as he landed blows with both hands that began to tell on Marino.
Quote from Marino: "Give Shirai plenty of credit. He was really good tonight. I wasn't hurt, but after the sixth round, I lost my sense of timing and I couldn't pace myself. I could see the punches coming, but I couldn't get away from them. Shirai was much faster and punched harder than he did in Tokyo."
Quote from Shirai: " It's like a dream." "I was confident I'd win after Dado landed several good lefts to the head and the blows did not fase me." "I felt that I could not go home to Japan and face my friends if I didn't win. So I was determined to beat Dado. It was a case of do or die for me."
