"Carter appeared to have the best of the fray in all the rounds except the sixth when he tired. He had acquired a sufficient lead in points, however, to merit the decision." Everett Daily Herald. The Seattle Times also felt that Carter was entitled to the decision, stating that he needed two rounds to get started before winning the 3rd, 4th, and 5th round, while getting an even shade in the 6th round.
