This Showtime-televised preliminary to David Tua-Robert Daniels was a wild, foul-filled one round of action. Dixon charged recklessly at Whitaker at the opening bell, and landed a very low left hook at the one minute mark, prompting a warning from Richard Steele. Whitaker immediately followed with a borderline right hand on the belt line, causing Dixon to drop to a knee, which Steele ruled a clean knockdown. At almost two minutes in, Whitaker landed a low blow. Dixon's retaliation earned him a second warning from Steele, who cautioned Dixon that one more foul would result in disqualification. When the action resumed, Whitaker dropped Dixon with another borderline punch, which Steele ruled to be neither a knockdown nor a low blow. A clash of heads also opened a cut above Whitaker's left eye. At 2:30, a wild-swinging Dixon fell to the canvas, which Steele ruled to be the second knockdown of the round. The final low blow from Dixon landed with 10 seconds remaining in the round, at which point Steele waved off the contest.
