Werther Arcelli drew with Harry Devine by PTS in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1934-12-21
- Location: Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
- Referee: Jack Dempsey
- Judge: James Carrig
- Judge: J Frank Montgomery
Harry Devine of Worcester retained his New England welterweight title last night by battling to a 10-round draw with Werther Arcelli of Boston. Referee Dempsey balloted for Arcelli, Judge Montgomery cast his vote for Devine, while Judge Carrig voted for a draw – and so it stood. It was a hard battle throughout the 10 rounds with both bleeding during the latter stages. There really was little to choose between the two, with Devine having an early edge which Arcelli overcame in the late rounds. According to the Boston Globe tabulation both fighters had four rounds with two even. Devine dealt out the harder punches but they were too infrequent to give him a shade. Arcelli had to chase Harry continually during the last few rounds, which made it hard for the local lad to score effectively. There was quite a dispute about the verdict. At first, Dempsey announced that Arcelli had won the fight but a recount by Boxing Commissioner Kelly revealed that it was a standoff.
