Jack Zivic 144 lbs beat George Kid Lee 144 lbs by TKO in round 4 of 10

George “Kid” Lee of Worcester fought off Jack Zivic of Pittsburgh for four rounds with one hand, but his handlers prevented him from coming out for the fifth and Zivic, consequently, won by technical knockout at Braves Field last night before a large crowd. Georgie’s left forearm hasn’t been too good since he broke it more than a year ago in a fight with Ted Marchant at Worcester. It didn’t look right when the fight with Zivic started and before the first round was over it was obviously helpless.

After the second round, Lee could not even use it to block. But still he kept it close to his side and whaled away with the right. Game to the core and in bitter pain, he protested earnestly when Johnny Buckley, his manager, notified Referee Jack Sheehan that Lee could not continue. Accordingly, Jack indicated that Zivic had won the bout and Lee’s seconds cut the glove off his left hand. The arm was swollen badly, and Georgie left the ring holding it close to his body with his other hand. He probably will do no more fighting for many weeks, Dr. Connors, the boxing commission physician, announced that one of the forearm muscles which had adhered to the bone after the arm was fractured and had been torn loose.
