Massey was in control of the bout until the 4th round. In the 4th round, Datto caught Massey with a right to the jaw, that dropped him to a sitting position, for a four-count. Massey was hurt a couple more times in the 4th round, with the next two rounds even. Datto won the last four rounds, staggering Massey in the 7th round with rights. The decision was booed, with the consensus being that Datto had won. The Philadelphia Inquirer noted that Massey fought back, even while Datto was winning the last four rounds.
