"Stetson carried the fight all the way, taking six of the ten rounds, two going to Carter and two were even. The decision was received with an unanimous roar of approval." (UP) "Carter took the worst beating of his career. He received a deep cut over one eye, the other eye closed, lips badly cut and his body terrifically beaten. Tom McMahon, boxing expert, who has watched Carter in many of his matches and who has said that the colored boy looked better than did Benny Leonard, Joe Rivers, Johnny Kilbane and other fistic greats at the outset of their careers, told Seattle people Tuesday that Carter 'will never amount to shucks until he is placed with someone again who has had wide experience and knows what to do in emergencies. Anyone can handle a boxer when things go along smoothly but it is the smart fellow who can handle things when everything goes dead wrong.'" Everett Daily Herald. Carter broke a finger bone of his right hand and Stetson was still in high school during this bout. It was also reported that Carter planned to make San Francisco his headquarters after recuperating for awhile in the Seattle area. (The Dec. 14, 1935 Seattle Daily Times reported that Carter's former manager, Lonnie Austin, seconded Stetson during this bout, and advised him of Carter's weaknesses. Carter's trouble was "too many managers.")
