This was a less entertaining bout than their previous Tacoma bout, with Fielding doing less and not using his bob and weave tactics from the first match, which gave Steele trouble. Steele had an edge in the first four rounds, before Fielding rallied at the end. The Tacoma Daily Ledger felt that Steele deserved the verdict, while the Tacoma News-Tribune felt that the bout was bad and wasn't worthy of a winner. The crowd did boo the decision, as they had in the previous meeting between the two.
