Dekwal, who owns a TKO-6 win over Tanzanian veteran Francis Miyeyusho, was originally scheduled to fight Muhammad Bilal (9-1-1, 7 KOs) of Pakistan for the vacant WBA Asia East lightweight title. Bilal was forced to withdraw due to visa problems.

With his upset KO-7 victory, late substitute Mwangi won the vacant title.
