Welch began to take control in the 3rd round, as he was faster than Macedon, and landed heavily on him. Welch finally began to wear down Macedon in the 7th round, when he quivered from a right uppercut to the jaw. Welch hurt Macedon in the 8th round with a one-two and a follow-up barrage, Macedon sunk to one knee, and took the full ten-count.
