Jimmy Welch didn’t have much of a chance to prove his own merits, reportedly many, for just two minutes and 28 seconds after he answered the opening bell, he was counted out. Before he was victimized by a solid right cross to his inviting chin, Welch indicated that he would provide a busy ten rounds for Neal. He had a big edge in reach and, apparently, in boxing ability. Neither asset did him any good, of course, once he went down. He had to be helped up, so effectively did Neal’s well-guided right do damage. The sudden ending caught the 1200 patrons by surprise.
