Pete Meyers 150 lbs beat Eddie Roberts 154 lbs by DQ in round 8 of 10

  • Date: 1929-07-26
  • Location: Dreamland Auditorium, San Francisco, California, USA
  • Referee: Toby Irwin

"At the time Roberts was disqualified for hitting low he had piled up a substantial lead in points and had Meyers on the verge of a knockout. The blow was clearly unintentional.... Twice during the seventh round the local fighter hit the canvas. Early in the eighth round Roberts dug a heavy left to Meyers' body and the latter sank to the canvas, arising at the count of eight. It was then that Roberts, apparently too eager, struck the foul blow." (UP) That December Roberts was arrested in connection with a car accident that had injured Miss Vivian Froelich, 22. Roberts reported to police that the girl had been struck, and while he was doing so his companion, George Wesley, disappeared with her in front of the police station. She was later found at an apartment she formerly occupied, in a dazed condition.
