Mark Gastineau 250 lbs beat Tim Murphy 212 lbs by TKO at 0:56 in round 2 of 4
- Date: 1991-09-11
- Location: Central Plaza Hotel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA
"In his third bout as a professional boxer, the former All-Pro football player manhandled Tim Murphy of Omaha, Neb., at the :56 mark of the second round in their scheduled four-rounder.
Gastineau, known for his defense in the NFL, provided all the offense and battered Murphy with several combinations. Once Gastineau decided to take the fight to Murphy, he spun his inexperienced opponent around on several occasions in a bout that most everyone on hand felt was far less than spectacular. Murphy, 6-1 and 212 pounds, was making his pro debut." - Jerry Shottenkirk, The Oklahoman, 9/12/91
Murphy went on record years later that he conspired with Gastineau's manager, Rick Parker, to throw the fight.
