- This fight was on the same card as Johnny Tapia vs. Paulie Ayala (1st meeting) which would be named Ring Magazine Fight of the Year for 1999.
- Butterbean came in 12 pounds lighter for this fight than his previous bout just 15 days earlier. Too, this was his 3rd fight in 30 days.
- McNeeley appeared to be hurt by a combination of lunging hooks upstairs. He immediately went on the defensive. Referee Jay Nady stepped in just prior to the bell and waved an end to the bout as McNeeley was against the ropes and covered up.
