At the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, former # 1 ranked middleweight Bennie Briscoe of Philadelphia scored an upset over hard-punching Norberto Sabater of Brooklyn. Briscoe came forward and landed hard left right jab combinations while slipping punches, and Sabater, who just couldn't seem to get started in this bout, had his eyes cut up by Briscoe's jabs and was stopped for the first time in the fifth round.
