Carter and Hess had been scheduled to meet earlier in a highly-publicized bout, but Hess developed a boil that caused the bout to be canceled. Carter was way ahead entering the 10th round, when he was staggered by Hess, after he grabbed the rope, the referee stopped the bout, according to the Los Angeles Times, who thought the stoppage was too quick.
