Leslie Wildcat Carter 140 lbs lost to Sammy Santos 138 lbs by TKO in round 5 of 8

  • Date: 1931-09-16
  • Location: Civic Ice Arena, Seattle, Washington, USA
  • Referee: Tommy Clark

After a listless opening half of the 1st round, Santos backed against the ropes, landed a right hand to Carter's jaw that staggered him. Santos followed with a left and right, and Carter was left hanging on to the ropes. Referee Clark motioned Santos away, as Carter appeared to be out of it on the ropes. As the action resumed, Santos attacked him again with a flurry, and Carter sunk to one knee taking a three count. He staggered up, and was saved by the bell. Carter again took a pounding in the 2nd, though he kept slugging with Santos. Carter rallied to win the 3rd round, as he appeared to hurt Santos, catching him several times on the chin. Santos regained the upper hand in the 4th as he rocked a wobbly Carter, who nonetheless, fought back gamely. In the 5th round, Santos switched tactics, as he charged Carter, instead of lunging and swinging as was his normal style. Santos cracked Carter with three successive punches that staggered him, and then sent him to the canvas. Carter rolled up off the canvas at eight, and was then met with the finishing punch, a right hand.
