Young Joe DeNucci built up a lead in the early rounds, scoring a knockdown in the first, and then held on to beat Al Andrews, 1661/2, an old pro from St. Paul, in a close fight. The recent graduate from Newton High, coming in at 165, tired badly towards the end and Andrews came on, making his vast experience work for him. It was DeNucci’s 19th victory in 20 fights. Andrews suffered a broken rib in the first round and was unable to throw effective rights.
