Cobb wobbled Thompson in the 2nd round, and built up a sizeable early lead on Thompson. Thompson did little until the last two rounds, which he won. The San Diego Tribune scored the bout 5-2-3 for Cobb, while the San Diego Union also favored Cobb 6-4. Thompson claimed an injured right hand after the bout, stating he was unable to punch with it without pain.
