Paul Raymond 189 lbs beat Eddie Spence 173 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1970-12-15
- Location: Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
- Referee: Eddie McCarron 100-90
- Judge: 100-91
Paul Raymond, 189, of Somerville, had too much strength and too big a weight advantage over Eddie Spence, 173, Pittsfield, as he pounded out a 10-round decision to regain the New England Heavyweight Title. Spence had won the title in their previous fight seven months ago in Portland, Maine, when Raymond was cut too badly to come out for the fourth round, but he couldn't repeat that performance last night. The lanky Pittsfield fighter did open a cut over Raymond's left eye in the second round and had him bleeding from the nose in the third, but Raymond just kept bulling him around the ring and eventually wore him down. Referee Ed McCarron and the two judges all gave their ballots to Raymond by a wide margin. Each official credited Raymond with a perfect 100 points. Spence received 93, 91, 90. [Boston Herald]
